This printable Georgia O’Keeffe Poppy Template Set includes two reference images to help students build their drawing in stages.

The more basic image is designed for students to look at when they are just beginning their drawing. It simplifies the composition so students can focus on placing the large petal shapes without getting overwhelmed by too much detail.

Once the basic composition is in place, students can switch to the more detailed reference image as they continue developing and completing their poppy.

Some students prefer to look at the finished image from the very beginning, and that works well for them. For other students, however, the completed drawing can feel overwhelming at first. Giving them a simpler reference to start with can make the project feel much more manageable. I make both images available to my students and let them decide.

I do this project with all of my 1st through 5th grade students. This project is also perfect for middle school, high school, and adults.

These printouts are meant to be kept at students’ desks as visual references while they draw their own O’Keeffe-inspired poppy. Students are not meant to draw or paint directly on the templates.
